"V" The Second Generation Dead or Marketing Ploy?

Let's talk about timing.  Then let's talk about what's either good marketing or just plain idiocy.

Warner Brothers has decided that all the screaming "V" Fans finally deserve, after 20 years, a new "V."  NBC, remembering how the "V" saga boosted their ratings to something greater than anyone can imagine, agrees.  The Powers That Be get something right: they contact Kenneth Johnson, aka God, Genius, etc.  KJ delivers NBC a script with the vision he originally had.  NBC gets a 'new TV exec,' Jeff Gaspin, to oversee the project.

Unless you've been stuck in suspended animation the past week, you'll already know that Jeff Gaspin has shot down KJ's script, stating to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette "I just don't think it was different enough from the original, frankly. It wasn't as innovative as the original. It felt like a good sequel if we'd done it immediately after (the original), but in the 20 years that other space operas have come and gone, it doesn't feel as fresh as it did 20 years ago."

Probably because Jeff didn't watch it 20 years ago.  Perhaps he was the only one on the planet that didn't.  I'm guessing he watched the two mini-series back-to-back just recently and got caught up in all the special effects and action of V:TFB.  What do you think? The news breaks about Jeff Gaspin's decision to halt KJ's vision and to try to mold it into something else, conveniently as V:TS is scheduled (and has) come out on DVD.  Are NBC and WB's trying to see the sales to determine the fate of V: The Second Generation?  Or is it truly a coincidence that this happened all at the same time?  Is it just that WB/NBC wants to hear more outcry from the fans to see if they can turn "V" into a franchise?  Talk about Marketing!

Now let's talk about idiocy.  Who's the biggest idiot in this entire situation?  This is a rhetorical question because there are so many answers.  What's yours?

V Fans -- if you're reading this, I'm guessing you're a die-hard and you've already purchased (or ordered) your V:TS DVD and that you've stayed up all night watching the 19 episodes.  Or at least most of them.

With the latest news regarding Jeff Gaspin's "gasping" revelation, we need to WRITE to him to get him to see the light.  The address for the Letter Writing Campaign is posted at Ilana's "V" Celebrity Site . LET'S FINALLY GET "V" BACK ON THE AIR!
